A special workshop presentation by Dorothy Young Riess.
"Performing in the Golden Years, Just Survive or Really Thrive?" - an entertaining talk, with songs,
aimed at those of us over 65 and also interesting to the younger crowd because of what they will face
in later years.
"The Golden Years (age 65+) place special demands on organist-performers. To thrive (instead of just
survive) requires understanding physiologic changes and developing new ways to approach practice
and performance. The presenter is a Medical Doctor, now in her 81st year of life, with a strong
background in organ performance and personal experience in TGY (The Golden Years). After
retirement from 30 years practicing Internal Medicine in Pasadena, California, she returned to organ
playing with enthusiasm, focus, and discipline. In a fast-paced and humorous workshop, she will
present examples of "older" performers, review the physiology of "aging", and show participants how
to thrive as organist-performers in the Golden Years."
After the presentation by Dr Riess, all are invited to join together for an informal lunch and more
time to chat at a nearby restaurant (easy walking distance from All Saint’s).
