About Us: Redeemer by the Sea is a mid-sized congregation of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, actively seeking to make disciples according to Christ’s Great Commission. We currently offer both traditional and contemporary worship styles and believe music is important for communicating the Gospel of Christ to our worshipers.
Duties and Responsibilities include the following.
• Plays the organ and the piano for Sunday morning traditional worship services, midweek Advent and Lenten services, and special worship services and Cantatas as assigned. • Communicates and interfaces harmoniously with the pastor, the second service music worship leader, assigned church staff, and when applicable, choir director.
• Confers and comes to agreement with pastor and assigned church personnel on hymns selected, verses chosen, and placement of musical components in the service.
• Provides a replacement organist or accompanist when sickness or emergency occurs. • May be asked to play in conjunction with the second service or praise team/band for special musical events as determined by the pastor.
• Accompanies various soloists, choirs, and singing groups as determined by the pastor. When RBTS has active choir(s), the organist accompanies choirs at scheduled rehearsals during the week while choirs are in season and works with the choir director as assigned. • Accepts other duties within the general scope of this job as mutually agreed with the pastor.

• Authentic relationship with Jesus Christ
• Professional-quality keyboard skills (Organ and Piano)

Additional qualifications/specialized training preferred, not required: • Bachelor’s degree in Music Performance

Language Ability:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Music Director/Organist
Music Director & Organist
King of Kings Lutheran Church is seeking a dedicated and talented Music Director/Organist to lead our comprehensive music ministry. This part-time role is ideal for a skilled musician who is passionate about Lutheran liturgy and fostering spiritual growth through diverse musical expressions.
Position Overview
The Music Director/Organist is responsible for planning, conducting, and evaluating all aspects of the church's music program. You will work closely with the Pastor to coordinate worship services and provide musical leadership for various choirs and ensembles.
Key Responsibilities
● Musical Performance: Play the organ, piano, or keyboard for worship services, choir rehearsals, and special events.
● Leadership: Direct the Adult Chancel Choir, Bell Choir, Contemporary Acoustic Worship Ensemble, and various volunteer musicians.
● Supervision: Serve as the direct supervisor for all other church musicians, providing input for annual performance reviews for music employees.
● Administration: Maintain the music library and instruments (including handbells), oversee music-related advertising, and prepare the annual music budget.
● Collaboration: Communicate regularly with the Pastor and Office Manager. Meet quarterly with the Worship & Music Committee.
Schedule & Hours
This is a part-time position with hours that fluctuate based on the liturgical calendar (e.g., increased hours during Christmas and Holy Week).
● Sunday Worship: ~4 hours (8:00 am – 12:00 pm). One service at 9:30am.
● Rehearsals: Thursday evenings (3 hours) and occasional Contemporary Ensemble rehearsals.
● Special Services: Includes Advent, Lent, Holy Week, and special musical events.
● Planning: Monthly meetings and approximately 2 hours of home practice/planning per week.
● Note: Weddings and funerals are compensated separately.
Requirements
● Education: College degree in Music Performance and/or Music Theory. ● Experience: Minimum of 2 years on a church music staff or in a related music position. ● Knowledge: Familiarity or willingness to learn Lutheran liturgy and musical traditions.
● Skills: Exceptional skills in organ, piano, and keyboard performance, as well as strong
organizational, public speaking and leadership abilities. Comfort with Google Drive and Google Docs.
● Values: A commitment to Christian principles and professional boundaries.
● Compliance: Must pass criminal, financial, and sexual misconduct background checks, including DOJ fingerprinting.
Compensation
$30 – $33 per hour (Commensurate with experience and education).

Organist
POSITION: Organist
REPORTS TO: Director of Music Ministry
TYPE: Part-time
JOB SUMMARY: Be the principal organist who plays the organ and piano for weekly worship and special services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Experience and proficiency in both classical repertoire and hymnology in organ and piano
2. Experience in a liturgical church is preferred.
3. Ability to work independently (self-starter) and work well with others (team player) 4. Ability to communicate well with the director of music, the senior minister, congregants, and staff members
5. Able to maintain confidentiality
6. Familiar with the Church and its mission
7. College degree in music preferred or the equivalent experience
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Play the organ or piano for Sunday services at 9:30 AM and occasional The Garden service at 11am, as well as for additional services on Holy Days (Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Ash Wednesday, etc.)
2. Accompany weekly choir rehearsals (Thursday, 7–9 PM and Sunday, 8:45 AM), rehearse with musicians and soloists as necessary, and prepare for all rehearsals, including choir retreats and special concert rehearsals (twice a year).
3. Provide service music including preludes, postludes, offertories, and music during Communion.
4. Perform in and contribute to the SDUMC Concert Series.
5. Occasionally adapt and accompany choir music on the organ.
6. Maintain organ skills with regular practice to ensure manual and pedal dexterity. 7. Oversee organ maintenance and collaborate with technicians as needed. 8. Accompany memorial services, weddings, and special events, and work with families to plan music for these occasions.
9. Collaborate with the A/V team to ensure balanced sound for effective musical leadership in worship, especially to help with livestream preparation
10. Attend regular music planning meetings with the Director of Music and Senior Minister.
11. Arrange for substitutes during absences, in consultation with the Director of Music.
12. Participate in professional development opportunities, including attending meetings, conferences, and conventions (e.g., American Guild of Organists).
SALARY
The annual salary range is $24,000 to $30,000 commensurate with education and experience
